I read an excerpt from F.G. Smith a few days ago from his book, The Revelation Explained. He was making reference to “the song of the redeemed” (Rev 5:9) sung by “a greater multitude of the angelic order” and wrote:

“And again the heavenly strain was raised to loftier heights, until the stupendous chorus rolled around the universe, by every creature in heaven and on earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, saying, “Blessing and honor, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb forever and ever.” A few gifted voices of earth may possess such power and sweetness as almost to entrance us with their melody of song; but what an oratorio will it be, my brethren, when, released from the narrow limits of mortality, that sublime strain sung by the redeemed of all ages and ten thousand times ten thousand and thousands of thousands of angels, bursts in upon our ransomed souls! Did human thought ever reach the conception of music like this?”

I thought about this and was in awe of how beautiful that must sound! I thought of the many singers I have heard in my lifetime that have gained my respect. I thought of the deep baritone from Barry White, the melodic sounds of Whitney Houston, the poetic, sultry voice of Lauryn Hill, the great range from Mariah Carey and that’s just to name a few. I thought of their beautiful voices and wondered, what would a Heavenly Choir be like with whom the Giver has granted such gifts?

I took this a step further, What if these talented but worldly singers (for they are of this world and use their talents for such) used these talents for Christ alone? My mind races with so many celebrities that have given their time, talents, bodies and strength to this world. Their time and dedication to their craft is admirable. I am told how Michael Jordan won one of his best games while he was sick with the flu! Micheal Phelps, world’s greatest swimmer, dedicates 5-6 hours six days a week swimming alone! And the greats and talents of Steph Curry, Mya Angelou, Tiger Woods, Henry Ford, Albert Einstein and the list goes on and on.

Now I know I’ve given a lot of information to chew on already but my point is this: if all these talents, time, strength and dedication given to frivolous, earthly fame were placed in the hands of The AUTHOR and GIVER of strength and talents to use for heavenly things – The results will be phenomenal! ! Wow! The Word of God phrases it much better than I – First Corinthians 2:9 statesEye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. Do you see how amazing this is? Christ gives man the desire to succeed. He gives man the power and strength and endues him with knowledge to will and to do of His great pleasure. One can only imagine how God can use these special gifts. To top it off – the benefits are priceless!  Our names written in the Book of  Life and no paparazzi, agent and bodyguard fees because He is our Supplier, Protector and Agent- and I love that part!

On the flip side – to those who may think that you have no talent or may feel insufficient or unheard – believe me, I know how you feel. I share my testimony on this very topic in a previous post, Through Christ I Can. God in his infinite wisdom likens our talents to the body (I Corinthians 12). Each member, great or small is important. But did you ever notice that the most vital part of the body are the parts which are NOT seen? Though difficult, the body can adjust without an arm, a leg, fingers, eyes and ears but it cannot live without the heart, stomach, spleen, lungs, kidneys, liver, brain and cells. You are soooo important, so vital, so precious, so….Needed!

So take courage. Whether great or small, give your talents to the Master. He can take you to heights beyond your imagination. I encourage you to give it a try and see what the Lord can do. There is but one condition – you must come with a humble heart and mind because ALL the glory, honor and praise MUST be given to the One who created it. Another song states it like this: Thine shall the glory be, mine the reward. Believe me – the rewards are out of this world! –  figuratively and literally!
